BOLD VISIONS

“We do not rise to the level of our goals, we fall to the level of our systems.”

— James Clear

Strategy and action Planning

  • Strategy and Action Planning combines strategic thinking with execution planning in a cohesive process that drives organizational health and impact.

A quality strategic plan provides direction and protects against mission creep. However, most strategic plans live inside board rooms, and lack clarity on what work must be prioritized over the coming year. That’s where annual action planning adds value.

With a focus on the vision, we plan where we’re heading while acknowledging our present state. We ground ourselves in a 90-day view so that the 3-10 year picture can actually be realized.

  • There are a variety of great strategic and annual planning models available to the business community, however none have been specifically created for nonprofits. I’ve tested and trialed my way through several models and have developed a customized planning process encompassing the best of what’s out there that’s relevant for our sector. Best of all - it will be easy for your team to use!

There are two parts of the process. First, we’ll forecast the upcoming three to five years, outlining your key strategic commitments and core objectives. Then, I will lead you through an annual planning process centered on your vision and values, while making tangible the priorities for the upcoming year, paced in 90-day increments. Team facilitation includes the creation and delivery of a plan encompassing:

    • Vision

    • Mission

    • Core Values

    • Target Market

    • Mega Trends

    • Core Processes

    • SWOT analysis

    • Issues list

    • Financial Targets and Measurements

    • Annual Goals

    • Quarterly Initiatives

    • Establishing meeting rhythms for the leadership and sub-teams

Note: I am available to facilitate one-time board retreats, annual planning quarterlies, or Strategic Planning alone. However, our best success will be realized when we work together over the course of a year via a multi-day offsite and three additional quarterly meetings. Each organization’s needs are quite different, and we can determine the total number of sessions needed to reach your goals.

Strategic partner days

  • Sometimes you need a seasoned thought partner to help work through the big and little details of your strategy and approach. The sky's the limit. Together, we can determine what you need. Consider me your co-pilot for the day.

  • I will spend a full day with you, diving deep into your organizational vision to create a set of strategic priorities as you move from vision to execution.

During this day, I will serve as a strategic thinking partner in your planning. This includes a one-hour pre-day planning meeting, a pre-planning questionnaire, and a one-hour post-day wrap-up/next steps meeting. Consider the following for our work together:

    • Revising your strategic vision or strategy map

    • Working through how strategy moves into annual planning, and the key components needed

    • Creating a list of priorities to work through and pace out with your leadership team and staff

    • New in your role? Let's set a roadmap for your first 90 days, and first year.

    • Designing a board retreat to engage the board in your work

    • A focus on funding sustainability: how can you best build infrastructure and drive funding/sales to strengthen and expand your organizational impact.

    • Etc. Have a topic you’d like to discuss? Happy to help.
